Does the iud stop working while youre on antibiotics?

If it does, how long after you stop taking them does it start working again?Does the iud stop working while youre on antibiotics?
If it is the copper T which you are using it will never fail if you use the better quality device. Actually the principle behind the IUD is like this - The uterus never allows any foriegn materials inside it because it has to get ready for fertilisation, When a IUD is kept it tries to expel it from the uterus thereby ejecting even the fertile egg. so be assured that if the IUD is of good QUALITY U NEVER RUN A RISK OF GETTING PREGNANT.
Nope, that is the great thing about an IUD!
No. IUD's are great ... remember to get them checked yearly with your well woman exam!
Nope nope-they'd warn you when you were prescribed antibiotics if it did...but this is one reason to be sure every doctor you go to knows everything you're on.including an IUD
No it does not, I know the antibiotics can effect the pill, but just in case use back up bc.
No, in the general sense. But there COULD be a variation dependent on which one you use. The copper T (old school, but still common) is not hormonal and antiobiotics should not affect its effectiveness. The Mirena (newer type) depends on the progestin hormone for a large part of its effectiveness and it is the hormonal types of BC that are negatively impacted by antiobiotics. Best advice-call your ob/gyn and find out for sure.
PS-I've had both kinds of IUD's and now use the Nuvaring. Used the Mirena first and ended up with an ectopic pg, then switched to the copper T but couldn't handle the heavier. more painful periods. The Nuvaring is working well for me, but it is hormonal, similar to the pill without having to remember or the side effects.so.I gotta remember that antiobiotic thing. :) Thanks for the reminder!
